Passages

Passages is a study of light, space, and transition.

Created in the studio, these photographs reduce familiar architectural forms to their most elemental components: light and shadow, openings and boundaries, presence and absence. What appears to be a doorway, corridor, or illuminated passage is deliberately uncertain. A space may be opening or closing. Light may be arriving or disappearing.

The work considers the impermanence of things—the continual movement between beginnings and endings, darkness and light, what we leave behind and what lies ahead. Rather than resolve those opposites, Passages inhabits the space between them.

At once architectural and abstract, the images invite stillness and contemplation while leaving their meaning open to the viewer.
