ICE

A meditation on stillness, transformation, and time

Created during the winter of 2019, the ICE Collection began as a quiet exploration of the frozen lake near my home, a study in texture, light, and form. I was drawn to the way water, so fluid and formless in warmer months, transformed into a frozen landscape of intricate cracks, patterns, and quiet tension. I didn’t yet know the deeper meaning the work would hold.

Months later, as the world entered the 2020 lockdown and everything seemed to come to a pause, the photographs took on a new weight. The stillness of ice mirrored the stillness of that moment in time. Life felt suspended, yet beneath the surface, it continued to shift, crack, and carry on. Just like the stress fractures in frozen water, there was quiet motion beneath the still.

ICE became a metaphor: for resilience, fragility, and the beauty of transformation. These images are not just visual studies of nature, but reflections on what it means to endure and adapt.

This body of work was featured in Modern in Denver, highlighting its layered meaning and visual depth. Each photograph invites the viewer to pause and consider the quiet power of a surface that appears still, but is never truly static.
